For years, psychiatrist Joseph Biederman has investigated, researched and promoted the use of amphetamines or amphetamine- like drugs for kids. Recently, however, a Congressional investigation and revelations in the media have brought to light that Dr. Biederman has accepted more than $1.6 million dollars in pharmaceutical sponsorship without declaring this very clear conflict of interest.
Now, in the wake of this enormous pharmaceutical propaganda scandal, clear and profound research has been released about the use of Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, Vyvanse and other drugs and their impact on children. The long-term use of these drugs has been scientifically proven to increase depression, anxiety and drug addiction in adulthood. Independent research has also established—contrary to Dr. Beiderman’s findings—that these drugs significantly reduce the growth rate of children. Other effects of the drugs include decreased chemical balance in the brain and an increase in the development of Parkinson’s disease. A 2005 survey found that 9 percent of all boys and 5 percent of all girls in the United States were found to be taking these dangerous stimulants. It is critical to consult your doctor regarding any child currently taking these drugs, and limit your children’s exposure to these harmful chemicals.
