FDA: Antibiotics in Livestock Affects Human Health

In June 2010, the FDA announced that they will be regulating antibiotic use in food animals by limiting use only to ill animals, and allowing the administration of antibiotics only under the care of a veterinarian. The massive use of antibiotic use that food animals are given encourages drug-resistant bacteria that can cause hard-to-treat human diseases. Current industry practice is to regularly give food animals antibiotics because it makes them gain weight faster and more efficiently.
