A new study published in the April, 2010 volume of “Thymos: Journal of Boyhood Studies” took on the unprecedented question of how many newborns die of circumcision related complications each year, and estimated that number to be more than 100 children. The lives of all of these children could have been spared had their parents not opted for this elective cosmetic surgery. To put this into perspective, consider that this is the same annual mortality rate of boys who die from SIDS.
